Do not start with a dry towel

Dry scraping can drag gritty material across the finish. Work promptly when practical, on a cool surface, using a cleaning method approved for the paint or protective film. Wear gloves and keep used materials away from clean detailing towels. Let a suitable cleaning solution soften the deposit according to its label instead of digging at it with a fingernail.

Lift the mess rather than spreading it

Use a clean soft towel and gentle passes after softening. Turn to a clean area of the towel as material lifts, and reapply the appropriate solution if the spot needs more time. Avoid excessive pressure and do not allow the product to dry on the panel. Clean and dry the area after removal so you can see what remains. Keep contaminated towels out of your glass and paint-drying kit until properly washed.

A remaining mark needs assessment

A visible outline after cleaning is not proof that more scrubbing will help. The remaining defect may need a different treatment or professional inspection. Specialty finishes, wraps and matte paint require their own approved products; do not use an ordinary gloss-enhancing polish on them. Describe how long the deposit was present and what you applied when you contact a detailer.

Plan around where you park

Parking under trees may trade shade for more droppings and sap. Check the vehicle after longer outdoor stops, including coastal trips, rather than waiting for the next scheduled wash to notice a deposit. Keep a small labeled, vehicle-compatible spot-cleaning kit available. MDC can help with routine exterior care at your location; severe or etched marks should be discussed before selecting a package.
